I had a friend help me with some of the terminal connectors in each wingtip of my IV-P (there are a number of them, BTW). He wanted to use his own crimper that he was familiar with, and I agreed--he'd previously built his own RV. After chasing intermittent operation of the wingtip strobes and difficulty in calibrating my fuel system, I started through the wiring. The crimps in these connections were not tight--two had pulled out. Easily fixed, but a couple of days and much head-scratching to trouble shoot.
Moral of the story: If you don't have good crimp tools--and use them properly, solder the wires--or solder the connecting pins if you must, but this is certainly an area where cost-cutting could be a very expensive proposition--it's certainly time consuming and frustrating to find and repair!
