NOTE, for what it's worth:
I asked John Schwaner at Sacramento Sky Ranch about whether or not to use aluminum or steel fitting on the accessory case for oil lines. He encouraged me to use aluminum fittings, saying that you get a superior seal between it (softer) and the steel fittings (harder) on the ends of his hoses.
He further indicated that steel to steel connections results in a higher incidence of leaks
Below are a few pics showing a tool you can turn on your lathe. Attach one to each end of your garden hose for measuring purposes and insert the other end into your -8 fittings. A simple way to get accurate measure for length and perfectly position hose and eliminates at least one pair of hands, or maybe freeing up just one hand to hold a can of beer while you admire your efforts.. :-)
