One benefit to being a newbie is that my kit (hopefully) contains the latest factory mods. OTOH I haven't been around long enough to know when these might've been included so this may be old news to many on the list. The picture shows the solid manifold that is attached to the trunnion and that connects the tubing in the gear leg to the flex hose. I temporarily routed the hose to the gear box using a loosely secured bulkhead TEE, swung the gear and found no twisting or rotation of the hose. However, there is significant bending at the hose connection crimp. To relieve the stress I'm thinking I might mount an aluminum bracket (using the manifold attach screw) to support the hose using a cusioned Adel clamp. That should reduce movement at the crimp but still allow some flex for the hose. Lancair used Aeroquip 566 hose- the equivalent Stratoflex 124 has a minimum bend radius of 2" so that bending along the rest of the hose length shouldn't be an issue. Some links for -4 swivel fittings are: http://www.anplumbing.com/shop/index.php?shop=&dept=Aluminum , http://www.discounthydraulichose.com/SS_6500_JIC_Male_x_JIC_Female_Swivel_Elbow_p/ss-6500.htm , http://www.tompkinsind.com/catalog/product.asp?itemid=39971 They're available in aluminum, steel, or stainless. I don't know what pressure they might be rated for. They'd be stationary when under pressure rather than rotating so that might be a positive factor for service life and leak resistance. -Bill Wade ----- Original Message ----- From: Colyn Case on earthlink To: lml@lancaironline.net Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 1:48 PM Subject: [LML] Re: Flexible hose assemblies I am concerned about the significant twist imposed on the line when the gear is extended/retract Bob, good point. I was looking at mine and don't like it. On the other hand, I'm suspicous about swivels in such a high pressure application. do you know what the service history has been with those?
