Fred,
I'm not Walter and I don't have any hard data
either but I can add my $.02 opinion.
One factor you did not mention is that when using
ram air, the pressure in the induction system can be higher than upper deck
cooling air flow. This can cause fuel to actually leak out of injectors
causing blue staining nearby.
After seeing Greyhawk's system years ago, I cobbled
together a similar arrangement to supply ram air to the injector
shrouds.
I can't say I see a bunch of speed improvement as
I'm not one for careful analytical testing. I can say - the improvement in
engine smoothness when running LOP in high altitude cruise is DRAMATIC.
There is simply no roughness anymore. As I lean the engine further and
further - power tapers off without ever running rough. Below 5 GPH she's
still smooth and I start to not trust the fuel flow transducer.

Subject: [LML] GAMI Injectors - question
for Walter
Referring to Scott’s
set up using a pitot tube in the cowl inlet to pressurize the fuel injector
air inlets, Walter wrote:
“Very nice set-up. Did you
use a turbo-type injector to hook to the ram air? [Yes]”
This topic raises
some questions in my mind that just won’t go away. Pesky
things.
Always Curious
