I too will likely have only 200-300 hours when my Legacy is finished. I've
been following Lancair since I spied the original 2-seater outside of their
hanger in Santa Paula, CA, in the late 1980's, and it was "lust at first
sight"! After drooling all over Mike Campbell's "Dream Catcher" at SNF
1994(?) and taking a demo flight in the factory 320, lust was transformed
into "true love" and flying "spam cans" has never been the same since (kind
of like a Ferrari compared to a Pinto). Mike spent a lot of time talking to
me about his beautiful bird and, as I recall, he was a fairly low time spam
can driver as well when he started flying his 320. He apparently didn't
have much trouble transitioning, was soon performing light aerobatics and
was already researching for ways to make the bird even better/faster (roll
rate, etc.). Although I'd bet Mike is a better than average pilot, that
gave me confidence that with the proper training, I too could transition
into and master the Lancair. After a lengthy phone conversation (i.e.,
negotiation) with my boss, uh, I mean wife, I pulled out the old checkbook
and put down a deposit on a MKII tail kit.
