They did switch manufacturers a number of years ago.  I am not sure to which end of the cylinder you are referring.  Generally the shaft end is more prone to leaking.  If you have a scratch on the shaft, replacing the seals will not stop the leak.  It may slow down for a while, but it will not go away.  The scratch must be removed by polishing.  This goes for internal leaks as well.  Any scratch in a sealing surface needs to be polished out.  A deep scratch in the cylinder wall doesn't leave much room for polishing since the hard anodizing is very thin.  The static plug end of the cylinder generally doesn't leak, but here again, look for scratches in the sealing surfaces.
