Rob -
Unless the design in that area has changed since my 1989 kit (and
I don't think it has), there is no free space available for side-to-side
placement! The base of the rudder pedal assembly will occupy all the
available space between the nose gear tunnel and the fuselage at the FS
station where it's located.
My reason for responding to the entire LML is to again publish a
rudder pedal design improvement that I made and which was published in the
LNN several years ago....
When installing the rudder pedals, I saw that attaching the cable
adjusters directly to the rudder pedals resulted in an unacceptably large
displacement as the rudder pedals moved through their entire range. A
solution was to attach the cable adjusters to the rudder pedals using rod
end bearings. It's simple to do and should have been incorporated in the
tech manual. You simply capture the shank of a male rod end bearing between
the cable adjusters and drill 3/16" holes through the shank of the rod end
bearing (holes are already pre-drilled in the cable adjusters). Then, use
3/16" pop rivets to permanently fasten the cable adjuster to the rod end
bearing. Then, the rod end bearing attaches to the rudder pedals. This
results in a very nice and improved installation.
