Don't get me wrong, Greg - an AOA indicator surely is a GOOD thing. My beef
with Jim on this is his making it a trade-off with the usefulness of a
second com in his post. And you must admit, since he's in the business of
selling AOA indicators, it smacks somewhat of disingenuousness (Whew!).

I'm all for anything that makes for me being home for dinner after flying
somewhere rather than being fitted for a cheap Tuxedo.

It may be that I spent almost all my first 500 Lancair hours flying in and
around the Los Angeles area. Even VFR and only using the ATC services for
flight following, with the usual glop that pervades the area and the level
of traffic one has to deal with, a lost radio could often mean landing a
long way from home field (at the time, Torrance airport - look at a chart of
the area and you'll see what I mean). Without a radio, you almost can't get
thru the LAX area from North to South!

If I could find room for it, I'd add one (AOA indicator) right now. In the
meantime, I'll "Keep my speed up, lest the ground comes up and smites me".

And to Lorn H. Olsen, Perhaps. Unless you are habitually arriving in the LA
area from the Bakersfield or Palm Springs areas. Not a pleasant thought, at
least in that particular geographic area. Besides, flying isn't supposed to
be purposely made into an Olympic event, where only the top 0.01% of the
population wins gold (getting home).

Yes, the two coms should be on separate busses for safety.
