I may not have been clear on this.  The transportable ACK ELT is mounted on a
shelf behind the baggage bulkhead.  A foil "Z" shaped VHF antenna was
installed on the sidewall near the ELT and was chosen because the ELT
transmits on a VHF frequency (121.5).  

COM2 was connected to the "Z" instead of the ELT and the ACK supplied 36"
collapsible whip antenna (horizontally extended to about 12") was attached to
the ELT.  

The ELT is installed to meet FAA regs.  Any further discussion as to its
fitness for purpose would move into an area of personal philosophy related to
prioritizing safety issues and the maximum number of angels co-resident on
the head of a pin.
