The article refers to a five-year life time. It also shows an internal picture of the unit with three AA (I think) batteries. AVWeb is the best aviation web site I have found and their reviews are excellent. I once asked a question about a GPS review and received back a full page answer from the author that dealt with the specific question. I was impressed.
