It is compact, but a bit heavier and larger than I imagined--but entirely satisfactory for my plane and hangar. It does have a chirp that I can hear with my degraded hearing frequency. Looking at it, I saw no screws in the base plate. Being naturally curious, particularly about replacing batteries in other safety detectors, I looked into the Owner's Manual. Conspicuously absent is information about replacing batteries, in fact, it appears that they want you to throw the $50 instrument away when the test button shows the wrong response! Me throw fifty bucks away when a two buck battery gets low? Wrong! Unfortunately, they give no idea of battery lifetime on this fine instrument--should I expect it to last six months or six years before I throw it away and give them another fifty bucks instead of buying a two buck battery? Did I remember someone-maybe Scott-saying that he hard-wired it in his airplane? If someone has pried the back plate off successfully, please give us your observations regarding future battery replacement, potential hard-wiring, etc. The bottom line is that it is a worthwhile investment, and even with no battery info, I am happy with the suggestion of buying it! Thanks guys.
