Since it is slow this week on the website, I will take this opportunity to
caution people about safety issues with the electric trim on the planes you
are building.
Be sure to put adjustable pots inline with the MAC trim actuators. You need
to slow down the response time in the movement of your trim on your control
surfaces by about 75%. You can order the pots from MAC, and they are not
very expensive, and are totally adjustable with a small screw driver.
Also, if you use the MAC stick grip, you probably want to make a flat
aluminum collar to separate your hand from the top of the grip, particularly
if you are just beginning to fly with the grip.
The MAC grip has the microswitches located on the top of the grip--and in the
stress of learning to fly your new plane, it is very easy to slide your hand
over the top of the grip to get more leverage--I did this and my whole life
passed before my eyes as I was running the trim to the stops and couldn't
figure out why my plane was gyrating towards the ground.
It is a very nice grip, wonderfully designed, but needs the trim switches
recessed or protected in some way to prevent inadvertant run-away entries by
a wandering palm or finger. I made a hinged flat collar of aluminum that
slipped below the head of the grip--and I have 400 hours in the plane and
still use it to this day--it may have saved my life once or twice.
