Last week during HPAT training we tried intentionally simulating a trim runaway. At speed, about 50% trim up is about all I could hold. It's not as bad when you slow down, but 100% trim up would be tough. I've had the experience in other planes of the a/p giving up after it dialed in max trim. This would be a serious situation in this airplane. Add to that that there is no manual override to bypass the trim servo and that the trim relays have been known to fail. It doesn't seem like the most bullet-proof setup. I'm considering limiting the travel on the elevator trim tab. Has anyone else thought about or done this? Colyn [I would point you to the archives as I'm pretty sure this has been discussed in the past, but if memory serves it is pretty normal to run the trims through their own breaker. If you use a breaker switch you can put it in a more advantageous location than your other breakers (ie, right in front of you, or next to the trim indicators (if you have them installed) instead of with the rest of them off on the right side of the panel) and label it "trim disconnect". FWIW. <Marv>
