Dear lml:
HPAT training includes a brake check for firmness on the pedals on base leg. If you have a soft pedal, no brake on that side: plan on only rudder steering, use a long runway.
The original IV construction (non-winglet) used tygon tubing to go from the outer rib to the NACA mini-scoop. Fuel vapor will soften the Tygon, possibly collapsing it. You should never hear air rushing in when you open the filler cap...The Tygon should be replaced with blue polyurethane, readily available from Spruce, installed with no chance of a kink.
In my construction, I included a valve that will allow air to go into either fuel return line to the wing tanks (backup vent). It is part of my loss-of-power checklist and matches the fuel valve position. It is normally off. A check valve in the air entrance line insures only air will go in but no fuel lost overboard.
