John Cook's airplane has winglets on it and he has come up with a great idea for vaccum relief.  John has drilled a hole \in the vent line at the back of the NACA scoop.  Shold the scoop become plugged with bugs, debris, ice or what ever  the hole in the line would provide vaccum relied from inside the winglet.

Skip, I was wondering about that too.  How in the heck did the vent get blocked while in flight?  I guess the rubber tubing at the wing tip could collapse? Is the fuel pump a positive displacement type?  Thanks for sharing that information.  Eugene, sorry for misleading you.  I'm certain that your theory could be tested in a controlled environment though.  Maybe a vacuum relief valve would be a wise consideration.

Mike/Gene,
I have to throw up the caution flag on intentionally blocking a fuel vent.  I saw a IV-P that got one blocked in flight and the vacuum the fuel pump created in the tank buckled the wing skin.  I'd sure hate to see that happen while you're waiting to see if your engine flames out!
