Since there are lots of Lancair 235 builders out there I'll put down what I know and then some stuff I think is right. Any 235 piston works in any series 235 engine. The C series pistons are out of production and very expensive so you don't want them. They are also low compression. The pistons that give 125 HP are the N series. The L2C pistons give 118 HP. Any 235 or 290 accessory case will fit any 235 or Post WW II O-290. Most C series and O-290 accessory cases are not drilled for the oil cooler galleries. An adapter is available from ADC to convert for oil cooler. The C2C has the galleries cast, but not drilled. I have jigs to drill them. There are 3 main flavors of O-290 The very early ones have the starter and generator mounted on the accessory case. They are collectors items and hard to find. The O-290D & O-290G series is 125 HP and has mechanical lifters like all the O-235s. The O-290D2 has hydraulic lifters and is rated at 135 HP All O-290 pistons are out of production, but available for lots of money. Any O-290 or O-435 piston can be used in any O-290 engine. All the pistons are rated for 80 octane, so can be used with car gas. Unless you are a good scrounger (435 GO/VO pistons/rings) an O-320 is cheaper to rebuild than an 235/290. It is better (cheaper)to buy LC or N pistons and rings than rings alone for the C series 235s. The 25 amp generator bracket for O-290 and O-235Cs is easy to adapt to 45/60 amp small Jap alternators. What I think is true... O-320 accessory cases will fit 235/290 series if you switch the dowel pins. O-320 narrow deck will fit a 235 cowl. A Lancair 320/360 cowl will fit a Lancair 235 235 engine mounts are the length of the long 320/360 mounts A variable pitch prop is worth much more than 20 HP. Probably worth more than 45 HP.
