Mike,

No experience (of course), but I’m guessing you could easily do 30 (or 40) gal in the good side and 20 in the bad for a total of 50 (or 60) if the pilot/owner felt better with that.  It would essentially be the same imbalance as just before a normal selector change.  Just start flight with the good side.

That sounds like a much better solution Mike - and 40 gallons is more than enough to go 100 miles.
