That makes good sense.  I think there were some comments that the EPIRB was the only locating equipment and ELT were not include in the mix.

I bought an AquaFix 406 /GPS EPIRB from life-raft.com for $583 on 02/15/05. I am sure that they cost less now.

 

I bought the EPIRB for a flight to the Bahamas that I never took. My beacon is registered for an aircraft at: beaconregistration.noaa.gov. I have the EPIRB mounted behind the seats on my plane. I also still have my ELT.

 

I don't understand the problem? If I crash, the ELT goes off. If I am conscience, I set off the EPIRB. Here is a copy of the registration:
