Years ago I talked to Ray Cote in Reno
about his wing tips. Said he borrowed the idea from either a German company or
Dutch … never the less … his tips just ran out from the leading
edge tip of the wing at about a 45 degree angle and went from the airfoil shape
to being flat at the trailing edge. In other words the airfoil just went away
by the time it lined up with the trailing the edge of the wing at the tip and
the trailing edge of the tip from the leading edge of the wing. He said it
added speed by reducing the vortex. He won a lot of races with a pretty crude
looking machine compared to the slick of others … Sharp et al.
