I think I can say with dome degree of certainty that since Lancair has
discontinued our kit, future builder manual revisions will be few and far
between. Therefore, I'd like to propose a new thread/header fot the List.
Simply state your revision and the reason for it. Let's call it Builder
Initiated Manual Revisions or BIMR for short..

I'll start:

BIMR #1.

DO NOT...REPEAT, DO NOT blindly follow the manual in sequence from chapter 1
through to the end in the mistaken belief that this is the most efficient (in
manhours) way to build your plane. IT IS NOT! You can bet a lot of money with
a high degree of certainty that processes completed out of rational, common
sense sequence, will NOT fit. You will need to rip it out, redesign, and do it over.

Case in point:

A long time ago, I completed the hydraulic gear system but thankfully, it was
never filled with fluid and tested at that time. Having done a lot of work in
the cockpit, I was focused on completing all the cockpit installations. So,
among other things, I wanted to fabricate my own instrument panel. Before you
can fit your panel and dust cover, the canopy frame and plexiglass must be
installed.Seems logical and was the right thing to do. I then made a removable
frame for the panel, fit the sub-panels to it which in turn fit nicely to the
center console. I then positioned (exactly where I wanted them), the .75 holes
for throttle, prop and mixture.

BUT, OH BY THE WAY, GUESS WHAT?....

The new gear hydraulic dump valve (which replaced the piece of junk which came
with the kit), is bonded to the nose gear tunnel in exactly the right position
to interfere with and prevent proper positioning of both the prop and throttle
controls.

I now need to rip out the dump valve and reposition both it and associated
plumbing so as not to interfere with the engine controls.

Are we having fun yet?

Looking forward to BIMR #2
