During my 350 hr firewall forward inspection/oil change, noted two items.
First, in the lower engine mount bolt holes (remember those 6inch deep wells
you fed the firewall attach bolt through?), there was some superficial
corrosion--apparently the powder coating process did not reach down there.
Scraped out the corrosion, used Naval Jelly and a rust prohibitor to fix.
Second, noted a semi-lunar shaped hairline crack around a mounting bold on
the aluminum rear spinner bulkhead on my Harzell prop installation. Talked
to Vern at Lancair--this has apparently been seen before, and is why they
are only supplying Carbon fiber bulkheads now. Am awaiting my new composite
bulkhead arrival now. Next time you all are under the cowl, Check out these
two spots.
