I have to second this. A recent parts order cost me double what I thought it
would. To put this in its proper perspective, though, these all-metal stop
nuts cost about 45 cents rather than the 20 cents it said in the 1998
catalog, so I think I spent $5 more than I expected. Not a big deal at all,
just a small wake-up call.
Vern tells me that he's working on a new version of the catalog with current
prices, so that should help. In the meantime, just ask the current price
when you place an order and there will be no surprises.
Having said this, I always buy my parts from Lancair rather than Aircraft
Spruce or the others, unless there is a significant price difference, which
is rare. I figure I call the factory with questions on a regular basis, at
no charge to me beyond the cost of the phone call. I'd rather have the
profit on parts go to a company that provides this service to me, in hopes
that they can continue to provide it. Also, Vern knows exactly what part
goes on which airplane, whereas Aircraft Spruce has no idea how the parts are
used on our machines. As a result, I always get the part I need. Besides,
the phone calls go much faster with Lancair, since my address and payment
method is already in their computer, and even if it weren't, I suspect Vern
has it memorized by now.
If you REALLY want to empty your wallet, just go up to Lancair and wander
through the stockroom. You just can't walk past all those Lancair goodies
without filling up your shopping cart!
