David,
Thanks the tips on the Smart Coupler and the two pole rotary switch. We were
unable to connect both the VOR and the panel mount GPS last week since my
tech guy said that we needed a THREE-pole switch, the GPS had a GAIN wire
that needed to be grounded whenever GPS is selected (using the third pole).
When I install the Smart Coupler to the system, I guess I will need a
three-pole rotary switch.
I couldn't wait for the switch to arrive so I test flew the Lancair last
Sunday without it, just wing level function available. Initially, with the
ALT HOLD engaged, the system began hunting up and down a bit, around 100 ft
or so. On my way back to the airport, it seemed to be more stable but I
will need to do more test. Anyway, I set the bridle cable to 10 lbs as per
instructions on the blueprints but you mentioned 15 +/- 2 lbs on one of your
earlier post regarding the S-Tec. Could this be the reason it was hunting up
and down? Please advice.
For those of you contemplating the System 30: I noticed that with this
system, the roll function HAD to be ACTIVE before the ALT HOLD would work.
In other words, the system does not allow you to ALT HOLD while hand flying
your turns. If I remember correctly, the System 50 allows ALT HOLD without
AP roll authority. The System 50 requires another hole in the panel however.
Maybe something to consider between the two systems...
