My contribution to the table top ideas: Home Depot sells clear Lexan
sheets which appear to be about 1/8" thick. I started with a 3/4"
particle board and used spray glue to attach a couple of sheets of giant
graph paper on which I highlighted with black marker 6" intervals in
both planes and also the diagonals from each side. I covered this with
the Lexan attached with small angle iron strips. This is attached to
the shop wall with a piano hinge and there are two 1x2 fold up legs. I
have been doing layups for almost 5 yrs. using a pizza cutter and it is
holding up great. The underlying gird really is a time saver when
cutting bid tapes.
Some time ago there was an ongoing discussion of jacks. I have two
jacks made from Sears 4 ton pedestal jack stands. I removed the center
jack portion and welded a Sears scissor jack to the top of the jack
stand. On the top of the scissors jack I welded two 4" pieces of angle
iron which then holds a 1x4" piece of wood which has the bolt which
penetrates the bottom of the plane. These are very light and easy to
position jacks which require only a few turns to elevate the plane.
Did anyone else notice the pictures in the latest issue of Sport
Aviation of the "New Fixed Gear Lancair" which won at Oshkosh? They
must be really laughing in Oregon.
Last night I saw a magazine type news show about a guy who is having
seminars all over the country and selling franchises for $100k for a
machine which can make energy from the air in your home. I didn't have
to get very far down Brent's crap detector list to see the similarity to
recent discussions here.
