I have been running my cylinders "upside down" both because of the reduced
flex on the hoses and because I have wide feet (13 EEE). I also mounted the
brake cylinders with the vent up.

To bleed this system I fill an old freon bottle with about a gallon of
H-5606 and connect a vacuum pump to it. It is very important to keep the
hydraulic fluid under a vacuum for about 30 minutes to remove any dissolved
moisture or air. Once degassed I SLOWLY pressurize the bottle to about 5 PSI
and connect it to the master cylinder reservoir via a T fitting. I connect a
1/4 inch hose to each of the brake cylinder vents and open them one at a
time. The other end of the hose is in a catch can. As hydraulic fluid is
flowing, I have a helper slowly depress the pilot's and then copilots
brakes. Do not reuse the hydraulic fluid once it has been through the
system.

I prefer this method to purging the system from the brake cylinders up
because the brake cylinders are the most likely source of contamination
(dirt and moisture) and I would rather not have that throughout the system.

If I had it to over again I would have reversed the system and put the
reservoir on the copilots side and connected the pilots master cylinder
directly to the brakes (not through the copilots brake cylinders). In my
plane the copilots brakes always seem to have a better feel. Plus there
would be fewer connections between the petal and the rubber to fail. I would
also add a checklist item that the copilot (if installed) check their brakes
during runup.
