Thanks to Messrs Moreno, Regan and Zehrbach for the enlightment on other
sources of power/speed gain and the affect on the power-train system. This
discussion has been most timely since the Legacy 2000 (#2 on the order list)
provides me an opportunity to "get it right".
In order to reach the speed capability of the Legacy, it would be useful to
reasonably optimize the power available by investigating the use of such
things as coatings, electronic ignition and injection, use of a clutched
supercharger etc. And, perhaps even more importantly, I want to minimize
cooling drag thru cowl design, air flow control, the investigation of exhaust
augmenter tubes etc. Currently, the Legacy cowl is big enough and pretty,
but inadequate for proper airflow.
In any event, I will soon take my 320 and fly the 2.5 hours to Morgantown to
learn more about coatings.
Several LML distributions ago, a Mr. Eric Alstrom was identified as an expert
in cooling drag and airflow. Does anyone have his e-mail address or
telephone number?
