I have used WLS primer on both my Lancair 235 and my Lancair IV and love the
stuff. Contrary to Jim's feelings, I think it is easy to sand. The way I
use it is to Brush and squeegee the first coat down into the weave and pin
holes. This is a pretty messy process but it really works to get the primer
down into to pin holes. I sand this first coat with 80 Grit. I then spray a
heavy coat on with an airless sprayer. This second coat is block sanded with
150 sand paper. After vacuuming and blowing off the surface with air I try
and find all of the remaining pin holes which I then fill with Polyester.
Then depending on how much is needed to get the surface ripple free. I block
sand and spray more on mainly the low spots. I should add that I spend
several days or weeks or getting the surfaces as ripple free as I can with
Micro before I use any primer. I would not consider using any micro after
prime as I would never trust the adhesion. If I find any low spots that I
missed after I start priming and I think that they are too much to fill with
primer I use the creamy polyesters that are designed to go on primer. Most
paint companies have their own brand. I have been using Sickens. I don't
remember the product name, but if anybody is interested, I will look it up
when I get to the shop this morning.
