If you know you are
making an emergency landing you have some time. One of the last emergency checklist
items is to dump the door air seal air.
Although not taught would it be an emergency checklist item to unlatch the
door? I have had a door not be
closed properly on takeoff. The
only indication was a louder than normal air in the cockpit noise. Isn’t there a safety catch
mechanism integrated in the latching system? I can’t remember. It may be possible to have the door
unlatched and the door not fly open in flight.

Wasserot, an ES owner on my field, had an "extra" door due to some
warping. He was in a unique position to test different tools on his
window. I know the ES door glass is thinner than the IVP glass. Even so,
one of those little emergency hammers didn't even dent the window glass.
Bud ended up buying a ball pein hammer and grinding the rounded end to a
point. That tool was able to break through the window glass. I'm
not sure what size tool would be necessary to break through an IVP window.
How
does HPAT address the door in their training?
