The bad news is that lightning doesn't really care and that the holes punched into radomes will be the holes punched into your ES. A Stormscope is as essential as a turn coordinator if you want to fly IFR. I have built the extended range tanks without the speedbrakes. If the brakes fit forward of the forward spar, it should be ok. If not, you may have to build a wall around the speedbrakes in a similar manner to the dyke around the pitot tube in the LIV with extended range tanks. Pat "Only three short years to go!" http://www.teleport.com/~peweston [Installing speedbrakes into an ES should be very similar to the procedure used in the IV and IV-P... the pockets need to be located at a BL location that will position them outboard of the ends of the stab, and about 60% aft on the chord... on the IV they're located just forward of the rear spar starting at BL76 and going outboard from there. I would heartily recommend a call to the factory to get their input on the exact location for the ES wing, as it is considerably different than the IV wing. I hope this helps... And regarding lightning protection, I'd suggest that you search the archives for "lightning" as there was a lively discussion of the subject in the LML about a year ago. ] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html
