Jeff,
You didn't mention if you were thinning.  I thinned the WLS to the max
limit and it went on pretty smooth.  It isn't quite like paint but
pretty close.  I flew 200 hours in primer and left my last sanding until
just prior to painting.  The unsanded surface did a good job of
repelling oil, bugs etc.
