I am running a Connie IO 550 and have no problem setting up LOP for any normal cruise. But how should you run it for shooting multiple practice approaches ? Or, running down the Hudson river, around the Statue of Liberty and back at 100 knots to maximize the flightseeing time ?

In these cases when I see temps around 285 I get nervous and start fiddling with the red knob to get them at least over 300. Is this a false concern ? Oh I know the Lancair is for going places, not fooling around locally but there are times when I just want to putter about and don't have a C172. Comments invited.
