My 3/8" lines run thru the center of the main spar web (and thru 1/4" x 2"
tapered phenolic with Don Goetz approval) along the front of the main spar
to a planned location of the fuel valve above the main spar.  The advantages
are: 1. the fuel line is up hill all the way to the valve so no water or air
can be trapped. (air can trap in a gascolator and push the fuel level BELOW
the screen. Yep, fuel will pass thru a fine screen that will not pass air
due to surface tension).  2. Water can not trap in a low area of line.  3.
this is a short, uncluttered route.  4. it allows mounting of the gascolator
(in my case a large Purolator gas filter per Glasair) above the selector
valve and behind the firewall which gets the filter and drain valve away
from the bottom of the airplane where it could get bashed by a gear up.  I
have details on the Purolator Filter per Glasair if anyone is interested.

[Steve, could you forward me a few photos of your fuel line routing along
the main spar web.  I've read your post several times and can't envision
this based on your description.  The aft side of the main spar web is
already cluttered with control system routings, the front side of the
main spar in the center section mates to the aft side of the wing spar
extensions so
running along the front of the c-section main spar doesn't work, and the
only other logical location is along the forward side of the spar web on
the wing spar extensions.  If that's the case, how do you get the fuel
line up there essentially through the spar web.  It's a bit confusing.
If photos are inconvenient, a sketch or two would also suffice.  Thanks.
