I certainly understand your concern! On the 360 MkII it is necessary to cut almost half way into the T.E. shear web. According to the manual this is normal and ok. The reason my T.E. shear web is cut all the way through is that my elevator skin layout called for the servo to be installed in the bottom skin from the outside, so that the servo itself would also be the cover plate. The reinforced area for the piano hinge was, however, also on the bottom skin, which, despite encouragement from Lancair, made this installation impossible due to bending forces on the servo arm. I, thus, had to relocate the servo to the inside of the upper skin, which necessitated a nice cut into the other half of the shear web.......
I will, of course, close the unnecessary part of the cut with the required amount of BID and should have pointed this out in the previous message. Unfortunately I am momentartily not able to check up on the correct amount of BID, my manuals are in storage because of a house-overhaul ( my wife issued a SB stating that the TBO for kitchens and bathrooms is now down to 30 years ).
