This is how my throttle, prop, and mixture bracket turned out for my Legacy.
I made it out of 1.5x6x.125 aluminum plate, had it powder coated and then
took it to the engraver (I sent a PDF file to the last a few weeks ago with
specific dimensions, etc).  I had made a small sample scrape as well and put
it thru the same process.  The engraver tried a spinning engraver for the
text and that looked like crap, then they tried not spinning the tip, but
just dragging it and that didn't look good either, finally settled on laser
engraving.  Other option would have been to have had it silk-screened.

One note about the process I used.  The laser didn't burn all the way to
aluminum, even on 2 passes.  This is probably better the more I think about
it.  Bare Alum may have allowed moisture, etc to get under the powder
coating and started corrosion.  This way, I don't have that problem, but may
loose the lettering overtime.  We'll see.  In the bright sun light, this
looks awesome.  The pictures don't do it justice.

One note for those building new Legacys.  You don't need to follow the
manual exactly in this area, as the manual is for the old style console.
The new style doesn't have the protruded engine control area and so you can
use a larger and more form fitting aluminum bracket.  Just *don't* do what I
did (drilled all the holes on the horizontal centerline).  Drill the main
holes *below* the centerline, so you have more room above them for the
labels.  Mine are .125 text and look ok, but I could have done better!
