Guys, when you are in the pattern it's totally unnecessary to announc= e, crosswind, downwind, base and final. Just announce entering downwind, a= nd turning final. Also, totally unnecessary to announce where you are twic= e in every transmission such as "Longmont traffic Lancair Five Echo Sierra = turning downwind Longmont". It's also against the AIM to announce "traffi= c in the area please advise". Just because you do this procedure and you h= ear a bunch of other people using it, doesn't make it right. With very few= CTAS frequencies available, keep the transmissions short and to the point,= and when you do transmit make your transmissions intelligible, as you woul= d want the other traffic in the area to do for you. =20 I figured up the other day that I have spent just over 31,000 hours in my A= TC carrier actually plugged in talking to pilots, add my 4000 hours of flig= ht time and that puts me over 35000 hrs Communicating in the ATC system. I= feel hoarse just thinking about it. Ron Galbraith ATC (retired as of 3-1-06)
