(Okay, to be fair, it has happened before, too. And even when I disagree with him, I still know that he's a smart guy and respect his opinion.) A 1% risk of giving up my flying is more than I am willing to take. Contacts serve me well. I'll stick with them. I have avoided Lasik because it's not 100% guaranteed and it is irreversible. I do just fine with contact lenses and I take really good care of them. (They do tend to dislodge at 4G and above, but since I haven't done that since I was a first lieutenant flight test engineer 25 years ago, it's not a problem.) Reading glasses are a pain in the butt -- I am just starting to deal with them. Lasik won't help. Sure, I know a lot of pilots who have done Lasik with good results. Good for them.
