FWIW.
Over the last two months I have been testing a BatteryMinder ( www.vdcelectronics.com) on an old Concorde RG25XC. I was curious if all the claims made in their literature about being able to revive old batteries and reverse the effects of sulphation etc. were at all true. The results have been quite impressive. I removed this particular battery from my plane two years ago after it failed the annual capacity check (<80% capacity). It sat around in the hangar untouched since then. Before starting the test, I charged it and performed a capacity check. It had deteriorated to 50% capacity. Since then I have had it connected to a BatteryMinder. Every few weeks I performed another capacity check. It was up to 83% this last weekend.
As soon as I saw the trend, I put my plane on another BatteryMinder. During my last annual, the capacity of the battery in the plane tested greater than during the previous year's annual. Needless to say, I now keep my plane connected to a BatteryMinder while not in use.
