I just had a call from the buyer of my plane. He crash-landed it yesterday and it burned after he and his wife got out. He was entering the traffic pattern at Ramona at the end of a cross-country flight from Bullhead City, AZ. He says when he added throttle to level off for the traffic pattern the engine didn't respond. He says he switched tanks and turned on the aux pump but still no power from the engine. He says he picked an open spot off the airport, lowered the gear and set it down. He doesn't know for sure whether the gear was compromised, but they landed "pretty hard" on a fairly rough patch of ground. They noticed fire as soon as the plane stopped sliding and got out. The plane was completely consumed by fire. He figures there were more than 30 gallons of fuel aboard. He was insured.
