I have been reading my Ops Specs for my Lancair Super ES. My airplane was
inspected and issued it's Ops Specs and Special Airworthiness Certificate by
a DAR. My first question ( and I will call and ask him) is did he write the
ops specs or where they provided to him during his coordination efforts with
the local FSDO?
I have two references in my ops specs to congested area ops.
The first reference occurs in the phase I flight testing section. Although
not specifically written to be applicable only during the Phase I flight
test period paragraph (5) reads "Except for takeoffs and landings this
aircraft may not be operated over densely populated areas or in congested
airways".
The second reference:
Paragraph (24) "This aircraft is prohibited from operating in congested
airways or over densely populated areas unless directed by Air Traffic
Control, or unless sufficient altitude is maintained to effect a safe
emergency landing in the event of a power unit failure, without hazard to
persons or property on the surface. This limitation is applicable to the
aircraft after it has satisfactorily completed all requirements for phase I
testing, has the appropriate endorsement in the aircraft logbook, and is
operating in phase II".
My question to the group is do you have similar language in your ops specs?
If so, how do owners/flyers operate their aircraft when they reside in
highly populated areas? San Diego, L.A., Indianapolis, Portland, Seattle,
Boise, Denver etc?
