As indicated on the LML earlier, an unlateched canopy opens about 4" at the aft side - and stays in this position. Well, if this happens (a checklist is something important...), fly the airplane, stabilize TO, latch the canopy. Being two persons on board it's easier to latch it. That's how we done it with my FI.
