I have a Lancair 360 with a 200hp Lycoming and the only battery I have ever used is a Panasonic SLA battery 28ah.  The first one was bought before the plane ever flew nd did all the testing of the systems including lots of cycles of the hydraulic pump.  On top of all the testing it lasted for three years.  But here is the kicker the cost was Can$78.00 which is somewhere around US$66.  It never failed to crank the engine but latterly it only just made it over the first compression, then it was fine. I had to put a trickle charger on it if I left it in the hangar for a couple of weeks without flying.

It can be used in any position, even on its side and needs no battery box.  Mine is on the rear of the firewall above the pilot's rudder pedals.

It is sent through the post as it is considered non hazardous due to being leakproof.  You can buy it from Digikey. Part #P049-ND for the 28ah and P259-ND for the 33ah (Can$80/US$68)  I would use the bigger battery except for the fact that it is a major mod to change the shelf where it sits.

In my opinion I can afford to change it every three years at that price.

Why buy anything else?
