For those interested in the Rahm/Joniec 420HP V8 which one the Kitty Hawk to
Oshkosh race this year, I have some info.

I recently learned that the PSRU (propeller speed reduction unit), which has
been the Achilles heel of this project for well over two years, is being
designed and fabricated by Jack Kane of EPI in Amboy, Washington (near
Battle Ground).  I spent about an hour and a half with Jack at his shop last
week and was very impressed with what he's doing.

His recent credentials include involvement with the adaptation of the Orenda
to the King Air and Aero Commander.  He has a 400HP "mule" engine with a
turbine reversing prop that he uses for testing and he seems to have a
wealth of knowledge and understanding of how to make a reduction unit hum
along with its engine and propeller.

His PSRU has been running in Rahm's airplane for over 200 hours now.  This
is the prototype.  He has almost all parts for 20 PSRU's on hand in his
shop.  There is still a lot of milling and grinding that remains to be done
on many of these parts.  His latest estimate for the first production unit
to be installed is the end of September.

Jack forwarded digital copies of three newsletters he has published from
1997 to present day complete with detailed color photos.  These newsletters
chronicle the history of his efforts on this project and Jack had expected
them to be disseminated as he wrote them.  He asked me to forward them on to
the Lancair community and with the indulgence of the group, I will do so.
