Mr. Simon,
You make this AIG/ Lancair insurance thing sound like a conspiratorial plot
between Lancair and the entire aviation insurance industry to corner the market
and keep you and others from flying. Far from it.
The facts are: not too long ago NO ONE could get insurance for a IVP
Turbine; IVP insurance was/ is expensive from anyone IF you could get it.
Your statements here lead me to conclude that you do not want or need
training nor do you want anyone inspecting your aircraft. You are free to do so
and the insurance industry is free to decline coverage or to price it
accordingly. There are other companies besides AIG (GLobal/ London etc.) that
write coverage but most require annual training. Lancair did not negotiate that
with them-- that was their decision and is customary in this type aircraft.
Three years ago when I was completing my IVP, AVEMCO withdrew from the IVP
market and left quite a few of us high and dry. Lancair worked very hard to get
companies to consider underwriting the coverage. You do those people at Lancair
a disservice by offering your uniformed views here.
IMHO, the options presented by Lancair and AIG are "less heinous" than
what you propose.
Respectfully,
Jeff Edwards
