Curtis,
To compress the nose strut, disconnect the linkage at the nose gear strut,
attach the gas strut, then push the end of the links back up and attach to the
nose gear strut. You'll have enough leverage to do it by hand.
Note: the attach point of the gas strut to the links and the other hardware in
this general area is prone to mis-assembly. Make darned sure to cycle the gear
by hand prior to doing so with the hydraulics so that you can catch an
interference. Otherwise something will get torn apart.
