On my L-235, inserting the bolt, washer, nut, and cotter pin thru the
brackets at the top of the gas spring is the absolutely worst job on the
whole plane. It used to drive me to tears each time I had to do it.
Then I got smart and cut an access hole in the top of my gear tunnel right
above the brackets. Replacing the gas spring is a snap, now. (The header
tank has to be off of course.)
