This won't help Matt much but for anyone still
flying a spam can, one approach is to buy a long term policy now.
Usually the question is something like "Do you or do you plan to fly
experimental airplanes in the next 6 months." AFAIK
subsequent activities don't count - although I've been meaning to have a lawyer
scrub the policy verbiage.
