I had the same thing a little over three years ago. = Getting the medical back isn't hard if you've been exercising, walking = is really good, so you can get your heart rate up during a treadmill = stress test. Mostly it's just paperwork. AOPA has an excellent step by = step description of what you need to do on their website. If memory = serves you have to wait until 6 months after the procedure before = applying for a special issuance. Once the FAA has the paperwork it will = take 2 to 3 months for it to flow through their papermill. It's really = important to cross all the t's and dot all the i's or the FAA will kick = it back or ask for additional information, which will just take longer. = For a 3rd class medical the special issuance is good for one year so = each year you need to do the stress test and submit it about 3 months = before your medical expires.
