X-Original-To: "Lancair Mailing List" Bill: Regarding stability of the Legacy, I recommend that you review the CAFE = report on the airplane, in which the author describes in detail the = methodology used to test stability and concludes that the airplane is = deadbeat in both pitch and roll stability, has nearly zero roll due to = yaw, and has neutral spiral stability. There is no suggestion of = stability problems and, in fact, the author was very impressed with the = airplane's flying characteristics. At the completion of the article, = which as usual with CAFE reports is very detailed and objective, the = author provides the following subjective comment: "During the 14 hours = that I flew this airplane, I did not find a single thing that I didn't = like about it. It was with great reluctance that I delivered this = airplane back to the factory when our testing was complete." That is my view as well. The airplane trims out perfectly and is very = stable, while at the same time being remarkably quick and fun to fly. = The airplane flies straight and level while hands-off for extended = periods -- it's no problem checking a chart or the airport directory, = even while not on autopilot. Carl Lewis Legacy L2K-203 N14CL >>I read a Pirep that would indicate that the Legacy RG with the 310 HP = is not particularly stable in either pitch or roll. It seems that it is fast = and gets you long distances in a hurry, but will wear you out with its = constant need for control.<< =20 -- For archives and unsub http://mail.lancaironline.net/lists/lml/
