I heard a Flight Safety instructor say, "The pilot is the only
part of our aircraft that we routinely fly to the point of failure. If we
were to annual our pilots like we do the aircraft we would significantly
increase the safety of our flights"
I think we would all agree that our IQ goes to zero when we get under the
stress of an emergency situation. The military learned decades ago that
rigorous training is the best way to insure performance from human beings when
they're under stress.
We all know how to make an emergency landing. We wouldn't have our
ticket if we didn't know. But knowing and being able to perform under
extreme stress is what recurrent training does for us.
