Fellow intrepid aviators,
This will be the final group email from WCFC headquarters and contains
arrival information for those wishing to partake in purposely hurtling your
aircraft in the same general direction of others. As of right now we have
almost 30 aircraft registered and confirmed coming!
The only information that is not currently on the web site regarding the
event is the following:
1) Parking. WCFC mounts will dominate the transient ramp in front of the
restaurant which is at the intersection of Charlie and Echo taxiways, at the
midpoint of 8/26. Go to http://www.airnav.com/airport/KMHV for details
2) Early Arrivals. Many people are planning to arrive on Thursday. Stu
McCurdy will be there Thurs by mid-afternoon, and I'll be there about 1900.
If you arrive early, please feel free to take a local familiarity flight
(see attached "MHV working areas" map), or perhaps poke around the airport.
We will be meeting at 1730 at the Mariah hotel and go for dinner for those
interested.
3) Weather (Wx). The current forecast is for broken skies with a 30% chance
of rain Thursday and Friday, with temps in the mid-60's. Please be careful
coming through the passes. There will always be tomorrow if you cannot get
through safely.
4) Payment. We will take care of all the administrative stuff at the event.
5) Flying schedule. Please visit www.westcoastformation.com for the flying
schedule and current list of attendees. Do not worry if you are not on that
list...show up and we'll do our best to take care of you. NOTE: Ground
school is mandatory for first timers (Fri. 0900 at the Mariah), and the Daily
General Briefing (0800) is mandatory for anyone who wants to fly that day. If
you miss the morning briefing, you need to find myself, Stu, or another
instructor pilot for the briefing before you fly....and you owe us the first
round that night! ;)
6) Operations Center. Each day we will have a general briefing in a room at
the administration building (same building you'll park in front of) of
MHV...the same room where the Rutan's give press conferences. ;) This is
where schedules will be posted and most of the ground activity
will take place. If you need something during the event, start by looking
there.
7) Packing list. Safety equipment is a personal choice, bring what you
feel is important. If you bring a parachute, make sure it has a current pack
(less than 120 days old). A well functioning aircraft with the ability to
talk to the outside world from both cockpits is mandatory. Also remember to
pack your knee board or something to write briefing information on.
FINALLY, please email me at sportform@cox.net ASAP with your anticipated
arrival time and number in your flight. Thanks for your time, we're really
looking forward to this!
Cheers,
Barry
